The Sixties was a time of major change for many towns across East Lancashire.
Burnley certainly no exception with the whole of what was termed ‘the central area’ undergoing a major redevelopment.
At the heart of this was the demolition of the old market hall. To help speed the operation up, dynamite was used to bring parts of the market hall down to earth.
The new market hall would itself become a landmark in the town centre with its curved roof.
Perhaps you remember the new market being built in Burnley. If you have any photos, we’d love to share them with Looking Back readers. Email bygones@nqnw.co.uk or leave a comment.
