A community group in Ramsbottom has restored the site of a historic church.

Ramsbottom Civic Pride members have been hard at work in the town and have restored the site of the New Jerusalem Church site, which stood from 1875 to 1971, on the junction of Ramsbottom Lane and Factory Street.

The church was built at a cost of £2,650 and had 415 seats. The New Jerusalem Day School was based underneath the church on Factory Street.

The site has now been transformed after the stonework has been cleaned and repointed.

Group leader Heather Ryder said: “A monumental effort has been taking place as part of one of Ramsbottom Civic Prides regeneration projects at the New Jerusalem site.

“Massive thank you to Euan Mcintyre from The Old River Natural Garden services for the repointing of this site. And to Andrew from A Warburton Building Services of Ramsbottom who cleaned the stonework completely free of charge to our charity.
