GEORGIA Stanway is ready to show Europe what she can do as she prepares to jet off to represent England in this summer’s Under-17 European Championships.

The Blackburn Rovers striker will head to the tournament in the form of her life having fired six times in seven games to guide Rovers to a third-place finish in the Women’s Premier League North.

And now the 16-year-old, who was instrumental in securing England’s qualification, scoring six goals in three games, can’t wait to play her part in a fantastic summer for women’s football.

“Playing in Iceland is going to be fantastic,” said Stanway, who has also been revising for her GCSEs.

“We can’t wait to take on some of the best players in Europe.

“It’s a massive summer for women’s football with the World Cup as well so I’ll be watching that as much as possible.”

Stanway has made an immediate impact at Ewood Park after making her debut for the senior team in January.

But despite breaking into Rovers’ first team Stanway still turns out for Blackburn’s under-17s.

“It can be quite hectic playing for both teams but I love football,” said the Dowdales School student.

“I fit it all in by playing for the under-17s on Saturdays and then midweek and Sunday games for the ladies.

“The ladies’ matches are definitely more physically demanding and the games are quite a lot faster so you get a lot less time on the ball.

“In the under-17 league Blackburn are one of the best teams, we finished joint top of the league this year which was a great achievement.

“And I only came into the ladies team halfway through the season but the team was really pleased to finish third because last year they just scraped staying up so to beat relegation and then finish that high up the league the next year is a big step forward.

“I set myself some personal targets and my main one was to finish top goalscorer in the under-17 league which I did so that’s very pleasing.”
