JORDAN Rhodes admitted he should have scored on his Blackburn Rovers return.

The fit-again striker headed over two first-half chances in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers.

The result left both sides still searching for their first wins of the season going into the international break.

And Rhodes, who was playing for the first time in two weeks after recovering from an ankle injury, said: “Draws in the Championship are not what everybody wants.

“Given the chances, I think both sides will be slightly disappointed.

“I should have hit the target (with one of my chances). As a striker if you don’t hit the target, it doesn’t go in. I’ll be working on that.

“It would have been nice to get all three points but it wasn’t to be.”

Rovers had significantly more shots at goal but Bolton had the best opportunity of the match late on when Shane Duffy cleared a goal-bound effort from Emile Heskey off the line.

Wanderers had two penalty appeals turned down in the first half after Zach Clough and Mark Davies went down within seconds of each other.

“I thought the referee was appalling,” said Bolton boss Neil Lennon, who had no complaints after Dorian Dervite was sent off in injury time for a ‘stupid’ second yellow card.

“There is contact in the back of Clough and he’s gone down. Then Mark Davies has gone into the box and (Craig) Conway’s dangled leg has taken him down. Nine times out of 10 it’s a penalty.

“But we weren’t going to get anything from him. His performance was a constant source of frustration.”

Asked for his verdict on the penalty decisions, Rovers manager Gary Bowyer said: “ There were one or two of them throwing themselves down a bit too easy throughout the game.”
